Biography

Elder Owen Harrod

Born in November 1971, Owen Harrod was raised in Southern Maryland, where he still resides today. From an early age, music became both his passion and his calling. During his high school years from 1986 to 1989, Owen served as leader of the tenor section in his school chorus. Under the direction of Mr. Paul Douglass, the chorus achieved great success, traveling to various states and competing in national competitions.

It was during those formative years that Owen also began writing gospel songs, laying the foundation for a lifelong ministry through music. After graduating in 1989, he began ministering publicly with the quartet group The True Gospel Singers, co-founded by his father, who also served as the group's guitarist.

In 1991, Owen was ordained as a minister and continued faithfully in ministry while traveling throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia with The True Gospel Singers. For approximately 12 years, the group ministered in churches, auditoriums, and community events, sharing the message of faith through song.

Around 2002, Owen joined the Lusby Church of God under the leadership of Elder Desi Weems Sr. In 2004, Owen, Elder Weems, and Elder Weems' sons formed the gospel group The Chosen Sons. The group later recorded their project, Something Good For Everyone, at the Trinity Broadcasting Network recording studio in Hendersonville, Tennessee. The project received widespread recognition throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia. Later that same year, their song "You're The Reason" gained national radio exposure through a compilation CD distributed by The Gospel Truth Magazine, produced by renowned gospel promoter Kerry Douglas.

Around 2010, Owen wrote the song "You've Been Good," and its music video aired in regular rotation on Black Entertainment Television's gospel music program Video Gospel for several months.

After many years ministering with The Chosen Sons, Owen transitioned into solo ministry, continuing to share the gospel through song at churches, community events, weddings, and homegoing services throughout the region.

In 2021, Owen was ordained as an Elder and continues to serve faithfully in ministry. He currently serves every Sunday morning as worship leader and audio-visual technician at Greater Faith Ministries under Pastor Sharon Holley-Ward at 9:30 a.m., and at Lusby Church of God under Pastor Elder Desi Weems at 11:30 a.m., while continuing his music ministry throughout Maryland, Washington, D.C., and Virginia.

Today, Owen Harrod is producing his newest project, Still Worthy, featuring songs such as "Still Worthy," "Jesus Never Gave Up On Me," "He's Able," and several upcoming releases that continue to inspire audiences through his heartfelt message of faith, hope, and worship.
